This 50-bead komvoschinion is designed with somber 8mm dark labradorite prayer beads reflect the sorrow-filled heart of Mary. In addition to the Seven Sorrows recognized by the Latin Rite in their chaplet, Mary's life was one of on-going sorrow. She knew the fate that was destined to befall her Son (witness the icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, where she comforts His fear of His future Passion). She had to raise Him alone after the death of St. Joseph - knowing the great responsibility she had to meet, raising the Son of God. Once He was an adult, her frequent appearances in the gospel story indicate that she apparently left her home to follow Him, After the joy of His Resurrection, He ascended into heaven and she was once again separated from Him - a separation that lasted the rest of her earthly life, until she begged the Lord to allow her to die so she could be with Him once more. Nevertheless, she had hope during her sorrow-filled life, as represented by the blue flashes in the labradorite (not well represented in this photo).
The dark gray labradorite prayer beads are separated by 3mm gray Crystal Satin Swarovski crystals. The divider beads are 10mm Sea Opal to reflect Mary's purity, and are capped with pewter bead caps. This mequteria is strung on .019" platinum-quality steel flexwire, and culminated with a pewter cross.
