In the story of Elijah, we learn of prayer. We learn that as the powers of hell - portrayed by Jezebel - pursue us, we must seek refuge in prayer. Just as we are unique individuals, so "grace begins to operate in people in different ways" (Gregory of Sinai). Elijah reminds us of this in the many different ways God revealed to him manifestations before He revealed their communion in prayer. Elijah's revelation at Horeb reminds us that we find God in stillness, yet this does not detract from our other prayers. Instead we reach this stillness in progressive conversion through prayer, "for it is in this that He attests the perfection of our prayer" (Gregory of Sinai).
The prayer beads of this mequteria are 6mm leopardskin jasper. The mequteria is is done in the "chain-style" of putting each bead on one short piece of wire, and linking these together in a chain. I used brass wire for this construction, to blend well with the natural colors of the leopardskin jasper. The cross is gold-finished pewter in a Coptic style.
