As far as we know, we are the only source of any kind of Mequteria (pronounced MAY-COO-TEH-REE-UH) on the Internet. Although we are Byzantine, not Coptic, we are uniquely qualified as designers of these prayer beads because of our own Eastern Catholic background as well as our interaction with people of all different Catholic and Orthodox traditions. Steeped in the Eastern traditions of the Church, we design our Mequteria to reflect the Eastern spirituality from which they were born. We choose materials and colors suited to the cultural and religious heritage of the Catholic and Orthodox Copts. For example, we try to use beads made of stones native to Egypt, and/or colors that match the symbolism of the Mequteria.

Our standard olivewood, "St. Patrick's Vision, and "Publican" style mequteria are made to order in any quantity you desire. Please note that while we keep the beads on hand for the 'standard' mequteria, large orders may require us to order more beads. This will result in a longer delivery time for you.

"The Publican" Black Glass So many people requested a duplicate of 'The Publican' chotki that I am now making a modified version available in all our different configurations of prayer beads.
The Jesus Prayer is based on the prayer of the Publican. This mequteria was originally designed with Confession in mind. We are to come to the Mystery of Reconciliation in the spirit of the Publican - humility and contrition. Made of 8mm onyx glass prayer beads and red glass accent beads, this mequteria reminds us that the blackness of our sins caused the blood of Jesus to flow, washing us clean in Confession. The cross is antique gold finished pewter - for now! I have only a few of the antique gold crosses left, and my supplier no longer carries them. However, I was able to find the same design in siver-finished pewter, which I will use when the antique gold crosses are all gone.

Bethlehem Olivewood
8mm carved olivewood prayer beads imported from Bethlehem, with an olivewood cross. These mequteria are strung on durable, premium quality flexwire, with root-beer-brown glass seed beads.
If you have purchased an olivewood set of prayer beads from us in the past, you will see that what we are now offering is slightly different - the prayer beads we are now using are carved instead of smooth. These beads are of a higher quality than the smooth ones we previously sold.
